Information Regarding School Closure

Hello Grade Three Parents,

We want to first thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this new online learning journey together.

Your child will receive all of their daily coursework and assignments through google classroom. Please ensure that your child is connected to their respective online classroom using the google chrome browser. There will be a post each morning with your child’s work for the day.

As Grade Three teachers we have designated office hours. You can expect that during these times we will be online to answer your child’s questions or any questions that you may have in regards to the coursework via the private comment box in the google assignment or email.

Office hours are as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00 am - 9:45 am and 12:50 pm - 2:44pm

Thursday 10:15 am - 11:33 am

Please have your child work through the day’s assignment at his/her own pace. Unless otherwise specified please have your child turn in any assignments by 3:00 pm on the assigned day. The main focus of classwork at this time will be literacy, numeracy, and religion.

Assessment will be on-going using PowerTeacherPro.

Please note that your emails and questions will be answered during regular school hours, Monday to Friday.

Thank you,

Ms. Ross, Ms. Kingsley, and Ms. Wojcichowsky

EPL Closures & School-Aged Online Resources

Dear Parents/Guardians and Teachers,

We are reaching out in the midst of class cancellations to inform you, if you are not already aware, that all 21 Edmonton Public Library branches are closed indefinitely as of Saturday, March 15. This closure requires us to suspend all EPL staff visits in the community, including schools.

During this temporary closure, we are taking several steps to ensure library services remain available:

  • If your staff or school community have materials currently on loan, you can still return them. Our materials return chutes will remain available while we’re closed. Visit epl.ca/hours to find a location nearby.

  • Customer support and information services will continue to be available during regular hours of operation. You can reach EPL Staff by phone at 780-496-7000, by text at 587-817-0337, by email or chat.

  • Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.

EPL from Home

As schools develop ways to support student learning in the coming weeks, EPL anticipates that parents/guardians and teachers will be seeking online learning resources. EPL has incredible FREE resources to support literacy, lifelong learning, leisure reading and educational needs. We will be actively promoting these online resources via our website, Facebook, Twitter and our Teachers’ Toolbox eNewsletter. In the meantime, below are a few of the online resources that you can use, available for FREE with an EPL card:

  • Brainfuse: offers students learning support from kindergarten up to grade 12. There is also support for university courses, adult learners, and resume writing support for all ages. Students can chat live with online tutors and create study aids customized to their learning needs.

  • Solaro:  provides the same great Alberta specific curriculum information you find in their Keys and SNAP publications. You can take a quick quiz or create a Solaro account and work through course lessons, reviews and quizzes. If you create an account, your lesson progress and results will be tracked to help you. Covers grade 3 through grade 12 Alberta curriculum.

  • TumbleMath: is a comprehensive collection of math eBooks designed for students. The eBooks combine animation, narration and sound to create stories and teach math concepts. They are accompanied by supplementary materials such as lesson plans, instructional videos, educational games and quizzes to test and track student progress. Designed for students of all ages, TumbleMath allows students to learn at their own pace and gives them the ability to take ownership over their learning.

If you do not have a library card, register for one online for immediate access for even more great resources for educators, kids and teens.

Thank you for your support, understanding and patience during this difficult time as we work together to ensure the well-being of all Edmontonians, and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Scholastic Canada

A great resource to introduce new concepts to your children. This resource has a new topic each day. Extension: have your child make a Google Slides with information they learnt.

Reading

Dont have many books at home? Here is a site where students can continue to improve their reading. Extension: have students complete a reading response in their readers response books using the questions found below.

Science

Students use their ecsd.net log in to get onto this site. On here, they will find content specific to what we have been or will be learning throughout grade 3. Find fun experiments you can do with your children from home.

Math

Keep your students math skills up to date and sharp. Students have their log in either in their agenda or books. Have them log on and practice essential numeracy skills.
